NOVON at-home teeth whitening process
Before your teeth whitening journey begins, if you haven’t seen us before, we advise a comprehensive Checkup to assess whether teeth whitening is a suitable option for you.
At Dentistry On Coolum, we offer GAP FREE Checkup and cleans if you are in a Health Fund for dental, so you are not out of pocket for your appointment. If you are not in a health fund, we also have New Patient specials to make quality dental care accessible to everyone on the Sunshine Coast.
Before we proceed, our dentists will ensure your teeth and mouth are healthy and cavity free. Plaque and tartar can reduce the efficacy of the whitening process so having your teeth cleaned before we start will improve your results.
During your checkup appointment our dentists will run through the process in detail and once you are ready to proceed, your whitening journey will begin by taking accurate moulds of your teeth so your bespoke trays can be fabricated.
Your second appointment we will see if these trays fit your teeth perfectly. Ill-fitting trays can damage your teeth and gums. This is especially important if you are predisposed to sensitive teeth and weakened enamel.
Whitening at the comfort of your own home – Application
Be sure to brush and floss your teeth before application of the NOVON gel. This will remove the build of plaque on your teeth and will not interfere with the whitening.
When applying the gel, less is more. Apply a small drop on the impression trays. Too much gel will overflow out of the trays leading to wastage and can irritate the gums.
After applying the gel, insert the trays in the mouth for 30-45 minutes a day.
How long will I need to whiten for?
The length of time to continue whitening treatment is determined by the extent of the discolouration and the desired final shade.
On average, continue whitening for 1-2 weeks or continue until desired shade is achieved.
In more severe cases like Tetracycline staining, treatment time can range from 2-6 months.
